Discovery Pathways

Powered by Youth

All of our public programs are led by Youth Environmental Leaders. Each year, 30 or more students from Philly public schools are trained in kayak instruction, fishing, water testing, public speaking, safety, and environmental justice. These young leaders become the face of our organization and make it possible for us to lead free boating days, fishing programs, health fairs, cleanups, and community events across Philadelphia.

In 2025, our youth leaders spoke 13 languages and led outreach in communities throughout the city. They completed hundreds of hours teaching, translating, supporting safety, cleaning parks, and welcoming families into nature. Many begin shy or unsure and grow into confident leaders who guide thousands of people.

Some of our senior youth leaders include Tha Oo, Eh Ta Ku, Mariza Texis, London Williamson, Yazmine Acosta, and others who mentor younger students and represent Discovery Pathways in the community.

Our work is made possible through strong partnerships with community organizations, including the Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia, SEAMAAC, VietLead, the Migrant Education Program, and many more.
